Hypnosis for Childbirth with Sally McNally, DNP, CNM, WHNP | 4 CEs Explore hypnosis techniques that can support relaxation, comfort, confidence, and pain management during labor, including breathing exercises, visualization, positive affirmations, and progressive relaxation.

Two-Part Abortion Workshop | Up to 8 ACNM CEs Join us in solidarity as we learn, network, and grow as abortion providers.

Why does access to community birth care matter?

The newly released Listening to Mothers IV report highlights what many birthing people and families already know: respectful, person-centered care matters.

While no single model of care meets everyone’s needs, people deserve meaningful options throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Expanding access to midwives, doulas, birth centers, and other community-based care models can help ensure that more people have access to care that aligns with their needs, values, and preferences.

Thank you to @npwf, @blackmamasmatter, and MomsRising for continuing to elevate the voices and experiences of childbearing families through the Listening to Mothers IV report.

We need your support, AB 1696 is headed to the Assembly floor!

AB 1696 would remove outdated physician supervision requirements for CNMs providing EMTALA (Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act) care in hospitals and align hospital law with current California licensing law. CNMs are already trained and licensed to provide comprehensive pregnancy and postpartum emergency evaluations, including labor triage, preeclampsia workups, mastitis assessment, UTIs, nausea/vomiting, and more. We also know when physician consultation, collaboration, or transfer of care is needed.
Unnecessary supervision requirements create delays, increase healthcare costs, and limit the ability of CNMs to practice at the top of our license without improving patient safety.

As of today, @unacuhcp has announced an unconditional return to work beginning Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 7:00 a.m. local time. We are sharing these words from @cocomoanikeala because they remain true.

More than 31,000 healthcare workers stood publicly for safe staffing, fair wages, and protected retirement and medical benefits. While the strike has concluded, the concerns raised during this action do not disappear.

Safe staffing saves lives. Fair contracts protect workforce sustainability. Retirement and medical benefits matter. Frontline clinicians deserve to be valued.
Collective action matters. Solidarity matters.

CNMA remains in solidarity with midwives, nurses, and healthcare workers.

Four Midwifery Wins for California!

We’re celebrating a historic day for midwifery in California! On October 11th, 2025 @cagovernor Governor Newsom signed four major midwifery bills into law, three of which were proudly sponsored by CNMA!
✨ AB 55 (Bonta): Streamlines outdated licensing barriers for freestanding birth centers, increasing access to safe, community-based maternity care for Medi-Cal and underserved families
✨ SB 520 (Caballero): Creates a dedicated fund to establish new nurse-midwifery master’s programs in California, addressing the maternity care crisis and expanding access to high-quality, culturally responsive care
✨ SB 669 (McGuire): Creates an Emergency Standby Perinatal Unit pilot program for the provision of obstetric and neonatal care to patients transferred from a freestanding birth center, or who present to the hospital’s emergency department with an urgent issue.
✨ AB 836 (Stefani): Funds a statewide analysis to evaluate and strengthen California’s midwifery education pipeline, with a focus on equity, workforce sustainability, and serving communities most impacted by provider shortages
