Schedule II Course

SCHEDULE II COURSE INFORMATION

This ONLINE course is presented by the California Nurse Midwives Association, in affiliation with California State University, Fullerton, and approved by the BRN for 3 continuing education credits.

 

The course will focus on principles of pharmacology related to pharmacotherapeutic management of women whose illness, injury, or condition requires evaluation and treatment using Schedule II Controlled substances outside of the acute care hospital. The pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles of Schedule II medications commonly used in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of women’s health care conditions will be included. In addition, legal requirements for furnishing controlled substances as well as principles related to patient-specific protocols for Schedule II controlled substances will be covered.

 

Course objectives:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the pharmacokinetics related Schedule II controlled medications used with the diagnosis of illness, injury, or conditions in women’s health.

  2. Analyze state laws and federal regulation pertaining to the furnishing, dispensing, and administering Schedule II Controlled Substances for our of hospital patient use.

  3. Outline the required components of a furnishing standardized procedure or protocol for Schedule II controlled substance medications in a Patient-Specific Protocol in accord with Business and Profession Code, Section 2836.1. The nurse midwife’s education, experience, and competence to furnish controlled substances must be included.

 

After successfully completing the course, the CNM:

 

  1. Will receive a Certificate of Completion that can be copied and submitted to the Board of Registered Nursing with your next renewal to meet the requirements of SECTION 30, SECTION 2732.1(a), BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONS CODE..

  2. Has fulfilled the CA BRN requirements to complete the CA BRN FURNISHING APPLICATION.
