Pronouns: she/her/hers
Elizabeth Smith, CNM, MSN is the Treasurer of the CNMA and Director of the Santa Rosa Birth Center. Elizabeth received her undergraduate education at Grinnell College and her Master’s Degree and nurse-midwifery training at Vanderbilt University. She relocated to Northern California in 1998 and has been a California midwife for the last 20 years. Elizabeth practices full-scope midwifery in both in and out of hospital settings. In 2014, Elizabeth became the Director and Owner of the Santa Rosa Birth Center, a licensed and accredited birth center that provides hospital and birth center birth for the families of Sonoma County.
Elizabeth balances her professional time between caring for the women and families at the birth center and promoting the practice of midwifery on a local and state level. Santa Rosa Birth Center is one of a few birth centers in California that primarily supports Medi-cal recipients and Elizabeth works to maintain and expand midwifery care and out-of-hospital birth options for women regardless of their insurance status. Elizabeth has a special interest in reproductive endocrinology and the care of people trying to conceive.
Elizabeth spends most of her free time mothering her 4 children. She occasionally finds the time to indulge her creativity with knitting and crocheting. Elizabeth loves to eat, hates to cook, and thinks dessert is the best part of a meal. Elizabeth loves to travel and has a fantasy of retiring to the Italian countryside. Most days, however, she finds no greater pleasure than snuggling with her kids, cozy in her Santa Rosa home.
